Trombone Cufflinks
Our miniature trombone cufflinks are the perfect gift for the trombonist in your life. These cufflinks are ideal for either the casual or smart look, and so you can be sure when buying these that they will be used again and again.
The trombone is a majestic instrument – this can be seen from its earliest common name – the Sackbut, and the fact that to create a sound from it, you essentially have to blow raspberries down it. (Stop giggling). The trombone first made its appearance around 1440, and has shown its versatility in the music industry in the years since, turning it's slide to everything from classical music, big band, jazz, swing, ska and more.
These cufflinks are available in gold or silver plated, as with real trombones. This stylish accessory is a 3D representation of the trombone, and made to high standards. As with all our cufflinks, they come in a luxury presentation and storage box.
If you are buying cufflinks as a gift for a trombonist, we've put together some fun and interesting facts about the trombone to help you impress them with your knowledge! Feel free to print these notes off, and give them as part of the gift. (If you're feeling super creative, we've even found an amazing trombone straw that you might fancy making, and roll the facts on a piece of paper inside the straw – trombone-tastic!)
The trombone requires great skill to play, as there are no markings to tell you where the notes are on the slide. This does however give the player the ability to create a fantastically smooth glissando, which is much harder to do on any other instrument.
In German city-states in the 15th Century, trombonists were occasionally employed as civil officers alongside trumpeters, which was a similar role to a military bugler.
The name “trombone” first appeared in the 18th Century, when the instrument returned to common use in England. The name literally means “large trumpet” in Italian.
As an added bonus, trombones have also been used numerous times for comedy. This video went viral in 2014 and here at Cufflinks World, we feel it shows the true purpose of a trombonist.
